Kintsugi
Inspired by kintsugi—the Japanese art of repairing fractured pottery with precious metals—this ongoing series explores contrast, structure, and intentional imperfection through bold painted design.
Over time, Kintsugi has become a signature design language of Baker & A Black Cat: refined, architectural, and quietly expressive. The series reflects an ongoing fascination with balance—the interplay between softness and structure, restraint and drama, precision and organic movement.
Each cake in the collection approaches the concept differently: stark minimalism, dramatic florals, sculptural negative space, or tonal texture layered beneath metallic fracture lines. Rather than serving as ornament alone, the painted detailing becomes part of the composition itself—guiding movement, emphasizing form, and creating visual tension across each tier.
